CRAPO is a secular and non-profit
organization with the mission that no one should face crisis alone and community
empowerment is the main tool to overcome and prevent crisis. CRAPO is registered
in January, 17, 2003 under society’s registration act 1860 of India after the
2002’s powerful Gujarat Communal Violence. CRAPO is a social action organization
and operates over 10 programs and services and provides assistance to low-income
families, high-risk youths, and adolescent girls, women in stress and disaster
victims to meeting the physical, psychosocial and development needs. Nearly two
thousand men, women and children infected with PTSD are registered as disaster
victims with our agency and build confidence and peace among communities after
the recent communal riots and provided $10000 relief to 2004’s tsunami victims
in South India, formed 50 self help developmental groups among low-income based
families in North East. CRAPO provides direct client service programs, relief
programs, coping mechanism programs, awareness and education program, human
right programs, and community outreach.
Right now we have offices in Ahmedabad, Saurastra and North-East India and work
out of an additional 10 locations throughout the year. We have one small staff (four
in all together at head office), a couple of social workers, advocates and a
group of active volunteers for every projects.

CRAPO MANDATE’s to Work in
reducing disaster and low income victims including faith groups and people
living under stress and improve the quality of their lives. We provide a range
of direct services and take an active and professional approach to leadership in
service, awareness/education and advocacy. Staff, volunteers and the board of
directors are committed to including and assisting people from our target
community and are responsive to the dynamic needs generated by disasters and low
income.
It also provides inspiration and inculcates a desire in young people to become
leaders for the nation tomorrow initially at local level by the means of
creativity, peace and human-right, psychosocial care and developmental
activities.
Mission of Conflict Relief And Peace Organization
CRAPO believes changes are the elixir of life and this is possible only via
community empowerment approaches. CRAPO believes that all people deserve the
same rights, including the right to live with dignity and to be treated as equal
members of society and the right to develop their basic socio-economic needs
fulfilled. Yet these fundamental rights are elusive for many people in post
disaster existing crisis in particular and socially neglected areas like
low-income families, high-risk youths, adolescent girls and women in stress in
general. Without supports from others, a meaningful change can not expect.
Goals of the Organization:
1. To contribute to the ultimate noble goals of peace, national integration,
mutual harmony and welfare of the society and also amongst the general public.
2. To concentration upon such major activities which are relevant to conflict
prevention, hostility reconciliation, reduce of social evils, elimination of
human right violence, post trauma stress care, peace retention and vulnerable
communities development any where in India.
3. To approach the competent court/courts to safe guard the rights of the
general public and for the public interest from time to time as the society may
deem fit and proper.
4. To carry out social researches of conflict prevention, and/or social
reconciliation so as to prevail peace in a greater acceptance and to make a
conflict free society.
5. To make affiliation or partner for any relevant activities with domestic or
foreign NGOs in the connection of program collaboration, participation and
ventilate before the funding NGOs for receive grant-in-aid, finance/technical
supports to achieving organizational goals.

Tsunami Relief: The organization has worked in the 26th December
2004’s great tsunami hit coastal localities in southern India in the states of
Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. The organization basically working for the
fisherman community and alike and provides them emergency relief and trauma
counseling in remote four coastal areas in those states.
Youth Development: Through this program we aim to target young
people at create enabling environment for peace and development through their
capacity building. Sports, picnic, competitions, workshop and innovative ideas
are prime activities under this program. Young people through out the glob are
requested to join in this forum for sharing cultural diversity.
Peace Initiative: Peace making in-between Hindu and Muslim
neighborhoods through the means of open peace-tea-party, street-drama, free
health camp, essay writing and other faith based involvement activities through
real life support groups for creating human right related awareness and
different communities participation non-formally. This program needs more
financial assistance and partnership from NGO and individuals.
Human Rights: Women are prime target group of this program. Women empowerment
through training on legal aid, exposure trips, workshop, creating enabling
environment in gender issues are its main objective. Encourage human right
violation prevention activities strongly. Educating youths and religious
instructors to spread right-based education and morale of all communities and
introduce them with local policymakers, media and volunteerism. This program
needs more training.
Community based disaster mitigation: Trainings, meetings to
address the burning problems of targeted community and lobbying with local
government/authority to enabling community in taking collective decisions
related to local issues like: water, road, electricity, education, government
compensation to senior citizens/widow/disaster victims and keeps the environment
more harmonious. We are in needed more collaborative partners for assistance,
exposure and trainings for our volunteers.
Research Works: We are working on suitable treatment for the mental illness and
peace building sources of resources papers. However we are also interested to
undertake more social research works. We are looking for more sponsors for this
program for sustainability.
Mental Health Intervention: We are building supporting group to
address community based problems that overwhelm their coping and problem solving
abilities. Primary cares are being given for people endure significant stress
associated with mental illness or resulting from disaster based traumatic
events. Counseling primary treatment and referral of common mental disorders as
well as sever mental disorders to local hospitals. Case works and psychotherapy
are the way of service of this program. This program needs financial and
technical assistance.
